Pouring Love and Hope

January 02, 2024

For kids in Taneyville, Christmas came early this year.

The school district recently showered students with holiday cheer.

The weeklong celebration, appropriately called a Week of Giving, provided bags of groceries and grocery store gift certificates to students the first day.

On Day 2, with a theme of Be Merry, Shine Bright and Feel Squeaky Clean, students received necessities their families might not always be able to provide including towels, wash cloths, tooth brushes, tooth paste, soap, laundry detergent, thermometers, combs, brushes and more.

On Day 3, students were treated to hot chocolate and blankets.

On the final day, Santa Claus cruised into the school, complete with a reindeer and all and children were treated to fun and gifts.

Taneyville School Nurse Chelsie Burkhart said what she loves about the Week of Giving and all that they do for the students, is that all children are included. No child is ever singled out or treated differently.

“We don’t take into consideration background or demographics,” she said. “All of the students are treated equal. We pour love and hope into them and we are providing many of them with opportunities they otherwise would never get to experience.”

The Week of Giving is made possible by support from the community, including funding from Silver Dollar City Foundation.
